  • How much do impact-resistant windows cost?

    Impact resistant windows can range from $950.00 to $1,500.00 per window however, these prices can vary greatly depending on the size and design of the windows.

  • Will impact-resistant windows increase my home's resale value?

    Yes!  They are considered long-term structural upgrades that may result in a higher assessment and a quicker sale, especially in SW FLorida, where we are prone to hurricanes.

  • Will I get a discount on my homeowner's insurance premium if I have impact-resistant windows installed?

    Florida laws mandate that insurers provide a discount to homeowners that have storm protective measures in place.  However, you should check with your insurance company to see what their exact guidelines are.

  • What is the life expectancy of impact-resistant windows?

    With proper cleaning and maintenance, your impact windows should last anywhere from 20 to 30 years.

  • How do impact-windows actually work? What are they made of?

    Impact-resistant windows have a strong, flexible interlayers (usually PVB) which holds the two panes of glass together, even if it cracks.  It is then encased in a heavy duty, reinforced froame to resist anything penetrating it.

  • Will impact-resistant windows protect my home against a Category 5 hurricane?

    High-quility impact-resistant windows can withstand a Category 5 hurricane however, it is important to remember that the home's overall structure will play a significant role and the windows themselves cannot hold the structure together.

  • What are the other benefits besides storm protection?

    There are many benefits to impact windows:  added security from break-ins, improved energy efficiency, a big noise reduction, they protect the inside of your home from damaging uv rays....just to name a few.

  • Will impact windows make my home more energy efficient?

    Absolutely.  It provides better insulation and removes any air leakage, keeping your utility bills down.

  • How are impact-windows different from hurricane shutters?

    The main differences are that impact-resistant windows are permanent, year-round protection, where as shutters need to be manually deployed.  Because of this, you also get year-round energy savings and UV proetection.  They also offer more defense against bad weather.

  • Do impact-resistant windows stand out? Are they unattracted?

    No.  Today's impact-resistant windows are manufactured to blend seamlessly with all architectural designs.

  • Is tampered glass the same as impact-resistant glass?

    No.  Although it is stronger than normal glass, tempered glass will still break into small pieces and will not offer the same protection against storms.

  • Do you have to have a permit to replace your old windows with impact-resistant windows?

    Yes!  Impact-resistant windows must comply with the strict building codes for wind resistance and safety, especially in high velocity hurricane zones.

  • What type of certificate or license should I look for when hiring someone to install my impact-resistant windows?

    The individual performing the installation must hold a valid state-issued contractor's license.  A building permit is required to ensure that the installation will pass all building codes and all windows must have a Florida Product Approval or a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance.

  • How long does it take from start to finish to have impact windows ordered and installed?

    Most jobs usually take 6 to 8 weeks however, custom shaped windows may take longer.

  • Can you get custom-sized windows that are impact-resistant?

    Yes.  Many manufacturers offer custom sizes, shapes, and configurations to meet your specific needs and to provide enhanced protection without sacrificing design.

  • Do they have different tints you can get?

    Yes you can get many color variations for your impact-resistant glass.

  • What types of frames can you get with impact resistant windows? Do they come in different colors or do you have to paint them?

    Impact-resistant windows come with reinforced frames made of vinyl, aluminum or fiberglass.  You don't need to paint them, as the manufacturere will apply a factory-applied finish in the color your choose.

  • Do impact-resistant windows come with a guarantee?

    Yes.  Impact-resistant windows come with a warranty.  Depending on the manufacturer it will be from 10 years to lifetime.

  • Are impact-resistant windows harder to maintain and clean?

    Impact windows are not harder to clean, but they do require specific cleaning processes.  They also require more maintenance to be done to ensure proper seals, locks, and drainage channels remain effective.

  • What are some of the cons of installing impact-resistant windows?

    The biggest con is the high initial cost and the need for professional installation.

  • Are impact-resistant windows able to open? Are they heavier than normal windows, making them hard to open?

    Although slightly heavier than normal windows, impact-resistant windows, when properly maintained, are easy to open and close.
